| ECONOMY: Alberta looks to develop education, technology and business ties with China |

(AlbertaIndex, May 14, Monday) --- A multi-year concerted effort by the Alberta government to open China’s trading doors has yielded new intercontinental alliances that will help build a better Alberta and may improve the quality of life for people here, across Canada and around the globe. Doug Horner, Minister of Advanced Education and Technology, will lead a delegation of industry, academic and government representatives to China May 12 to 19 where he will finalize agreements to help commercialize Alberta and Chinese technology while developing investment opportunities and encouraging partnerships.“The Alberta government has strategically invested time and resources on the China market. Now, we are committing to partnerships to exchange ideas and innovations that will have tangible benefits for all parties,” said Horner. While in China, the delegation will travel to Beijing, Harbin, Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Scheduled public events include addressing business, academic, research and technology community leaders. In addition to finalizing agreements, Horner will also address researchers at a bioscience workshop exploring additional opportunities for future collaboration in related research and technology development. Throughout the week Horner will meet with high-level government, industry and embassy officials to increase their awareness of Alberta’s world-class expertise in educating and training a highly-qualified workforce. The total cost of the trip for the minister and his executive assistant is estimated at $23,500 and includes transportation, accommodation, meals and other related mission expenses. |
