AGRICULTURE: Alberta to attend Washington DC conference on food, agricultural truck transportation

        (AlbertaIndex, April 24) --- Ensuring efficient and effective transportation of food and agricultural commodities in the future will be the focus of the National Summit on Agriculutre and Food Truck Transport in Washington, DC on April 25-26.

        MLA Len Mitzel will represent Alberta’s interests in discussions on transportation issues related to national energy policy, the environment, labour, food safety and trade.
       
“Albertans rely heavily on the commercial trucking sector to provide a reliable supply of agricultural products and commodities,” said Mitzel. “It’s an important part of the industry and this conference will help us ensure that it continues to meet the needs of our province.”
        The summit will feature more than 30 speakers from the US Congress, trucking and agriculture organizations, government agencies and private sector experts on various topics including: innovation in transport; threats to transport; and, upcoming US legislation. Panel discussions will tackle solutions, challenges and opportunities in the agriculture trucking transportation sector.
        Mitzel will attend on behalf of Minister Lloyd Snelgrove, Alberta’s representative to the State Agriculture Rural Leaders Board. The total cost of the trip is estimated at $4,500.
