CONFERENCE: Bioenergy conference in Red Deer on April 23-24
(AlbertaIndex, April 19, Thursday) --- A bioenergy conference will be held at Westerner Park in the Heritage Centre in Red Deer on April 23 and 24.            Bioenergy Options Behind the Farm Gate: The Biodiesel Edition conference will focus on local opportunities in the emerging field of on-farm biodiesel and other alternative energy options.

“Biodiesel and biofuel are on the minds of many producers today. Many are trying to decide if this rapidly growing field is a good fit for their business operations and goals,” said Kelly Lund, project engineer with the Alberta Agriculture and Food (AF) AgTech Centre, which is hosting the conference. “The conference will deliver a broad range of information critical to making those decisions.”
The conference workshop on biodiesel will present technical and management information on biodiesel on-farm batch processing, building a processing system, quality control, risks and liabilities of developing and using a non-approved fuel, and handling hazardous chemicals and wastewater treatment.
Although the conference will primarily focus on the economics and production of biodiesel, it will also cover other bioenergy options, such as wind energy. Speakers will focus on wind energy and renewable energy policy and markets.
The ‘On Farm Energy Conservation and On Farm Energy Audit’ programs and regulated feed-in tariffs on renewable energy sales will be discussed.
“Farmers have an amazing land resource that we count on for food production, but there are also increasing opportunities for producers to diversify their resources into other income streams,” said Lund. “We want to give energy efficiency the attention it deserves, and make producers aware of the business potential related to renewable energy production.”
