| ENVIRONMENT: Green building products featured in new website, www.GreenAlberta.ca |

(AlbertaIndex, April 19, Thursday) --- The Alberta government said it is supporting the initial development and launch of a website providing consumers and industry with information on green or environmentally safe building products.
GreenAlberta.ca is a website and database listing the best green building products manufactured or available in Alberta.
Iris Evans, Minister of Employment, Immigration and Industry, presented a cheque for $18,000 to sustainable building materials specialist Stephani Carter during the official opening of the Cold Climate Construction Conference at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton. “Alberta’s construction industry plays a crucial role in maintaining our current prosperity. I am pleased to see the industry increasingly using environmentally sustainable building products and practices,” said Evans. For example, if a homeowner was deciding which paint to buy for the home, GreenAlberta.ca would list various paint products, toxicity levels, recycling and disposal options, where it was manufactured and how far it had to be transported to the local paint store. The website also features information on the R-value of insulated concrete forms (ICFs) and structural insulated panels (SIPs) and the benefits of energy efficient heating systems, solar panels, on-demand hot water tanks and roofing tiles made from recycled tires. The GreenAlberta.ca website will be operated by EcoAmmo and funded by industry members, and users through subscriptions. As part of a public consultation on climate change, the Government of Alberta is discussing how green buildings can reduce energy needs and greenhouse gas emissions. |
