(AlbertaIndex, September 25, Thursday) --- Energy Minister Mel Knight is leading an Alberta delegation to the 2008 Annual Meeting of the Energy Council in Oklahoma City from September 25 to 28. The meeting will address a number of emerging energy issues including the commercialization of bio-fuels, areas where energy and agriculture conflict for land use, as well as advances in enhanced oil and gas recovery and new coal-fired electricity generation technology. Mr Webber is preparing recommendations for the minister on a made-in-Alberta Renewable Fuel Standard, while Mr Marz has worked with rural communities and Olds Community College to encourage development of Alberta’s bio-fuel industry. “Alberta is a leader in committing substantial resources towards the responsible development of traditional and new energy sources,” said Mr Knight. “In a global context, we can make an even larger contribution to responsible energy development by sharing what we have learned and promoting the new technologies our research and industries are developing.” The Energy Council is a legislative organization of 11 energy-producing US states, along with international affiliates. Canadian jurisdictions represented include Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia. Alberta became the first international affiliate of the Energy Council in 1991. |
