COMMUNITY: Province and city help pay for Edmonton seniors centre expansion
(AlbertaIndex, September 10, Wednesday) --- The Alberta government and City of Edmonton are each contributing $500,000 to help pay for expansion of services and facilities to the South East Edmonton Seniors Association (SEESA).
Funds provided will assist with the expansion of the centre including 5,733 square feet of interior space, improved and enlarged food services spaces, additional parking for 50 vehicles, heating and air conditioning improvements and additional storage and office space.

“With the rapid increase of Alberta’s population, many organizations, like the South East Edmonton Seniors Recreation Centre, must adjust to meet growing needs,” said Lindsay Blackett, Minister of Culture and Community Spirit. “These funds will allow even more seniors the opportunity to participate in and have access to valuable and enriching community activities and programs.”

“The City of Edmonton is pleased to help SEESA expand their capacity,” said Councillor Amarjeet Sohi. “Their outreach, social and recreation programs are vital to seniors and make Edmonton a more vibrant, inclusive community.”

"It is our mission to help people over the age of 55 to maintain their quality of life by providing social, recreational and support programs and services,” said Mary Anne Jaedicke, Executive Director of the South East Edmonton Seniors Centre. “It is thanks to governments - municipal, provincial and federal - the support of community businesses and associations and the donations of our members that we have raised the necessary funds to begin the first phase of our project.”
