ECONOMY: Cindy Ady to raise Alberta’s tourism profile in China
(AlbertaIndex, September 3, Wednesday) --- Tourism, Parks and Recreation Minister Cindy Ady is in Beijing this week to help launch a tourism marketing campaign aimed at raising Alberta and Canada’s profile in China.
The promotional campaign, called Perfect Family, features two of China’s most well-known figure skating champions, Shen Xue and Zhao Hong Bo.  The couple will have the opportunity to visit Canada this fall and promote Canada as a tourism destination before the 2010 Winter Olympics Games in Vancouver.

The programme is a collaboration between the Canadian Tourism Commission, Travel Alberta, and the provinces of Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia.

“Travel Alberta has identified China as an important tourism market with tremendous potential,” said Ady.

“Our involvement with the program will showcase Alberta on the world stage as a must-see destination and an exceptional tourism experience to key Chinese tourism-industry trade and media contacts.”

Approximately 291,000 visitors from the Asia Pacific region came to Alberta in 2006 and spent $251 million in our province.

Travel Alberta has full-time representatives in China working to ensure that Alberta is well positioned in the promising Chinese market.
