(AlbertaIndex, August 11, Monday) --- Alberta Chambers of Commerce said its President and CEO, Ken Kobly, has been appointed to a five-member national panel that will provide advice on labour market information to federal, provincial and territorial ministers.
Don Drummond, senior vice president and chief economist of the TD Financial Group, is chairing the advisory panel on Labour Market Information, which was created to guide the Forum of Labour Market Ministers (FLMM), co-chaired by Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, and Murray Coell, BC’s Minister of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development. As president and CEO of a federation of 127 chambers of commerce, which collectively represent 22,000 businesses, Kobly will provide an overview of Alberta’s significant labour challenges. He has been a guest panellist at a number of economic conferences that have explored the issue. As a member of the advisory panel on Labour Market Information, he will participate in consultations to gain insights on the labour situation in other regions as the panel gains information to report to the FLMM by the spring of 2009. “I view this appointment as a great opportunity as labour is the number one issue for our members and has been for a number of years,” says Kobly. “Membership on this panel will give me a chance to learn about experiences in the rest of the country and, hopefully, contribute to some positive solutions.” |
