TRANSPORTATION: Singapore firm awarded $10 million Calgary airport contract
(AlbertaIndex, August 4, Monday) --- Inter-Roller Engineering Limited, a Singapore-based specialist in building airport logistic systems, has won a 10 million contract to design and install a baggage handling system (BHS) for the Calgary International Airport.
The project covers the design, supply and installation of mechanical, electrical and control systems that will integrate with the 100% ‘hold bag screening’ system. It includes the security tracking, baggage sorting, automatic baggage tag scanning, manual encoding and high-level control systems.

Scheduled to complete in mid-2009, Inter-Roller’s system will help to increase the trans-border baggage handling capacity of this airport.

“This award is of particular importance to us as it’s a recognition of our capabilities in North America. We will ride on this opportunity and continue to build our presence in this region,” said Oon Chong Howe, CEO of Inter-Roller Engineering Limited.

This is the company’s second BHS project in Canada after last year’s award for a larger project in Winnipeg.

With the two projects, Inter-Roller is planning to expand its foothold in North America.

Inter-Roller, a Singapore Exchange-listed company, is one of the world’s leading companies in the provision of airport logistics systems. Apart from baggage handling, it builds systems to handle air cargoes, in-flight catering and express courier handling.

The company undertakes design, engineering, manufacturing, installation and maintenance suppor services.

A filmed interview with Mr Oon will soon be broadcast on this news site, www.AlbertaIndex.com.
