ECONOMY: Finance Minister Flaherty to speak at Calgary Chamber of Commerce on July 16
(AlbertaIndex, July 15, Tuesday) --- Canada’s Finance Minister, Jim Flaherty, will be at the Calgary Chamber of Commerce tomorrow to address a host of financial and economic issues facing the country.

This will be Mr Flaherty’s first major public address in Calgary since Budget 2008. He is expected to speak on the rules governing the conversion of income trusts to corporations, the roadmap to a single securities regulator, the outlook for the economy in light of the credit meltdown in the US, and Canada’s fiscal policy.

He is also expected to discuss two recent reports pointing to Canada’s failing socio-economic grades, and the need to inject competition and raise productivity as a foundation for the country’s long-term economic health.
