MEDIA: 1.3 million viewers made ‘Mayerthorpe’ most-watched original Canadian drama of the year
(AlbertaIndex, February 14, Tuesday) --- This week’s premiere of the CTV original movie, Mayerthorpe, featuring the murder of four RCMP officers, drew an average audience of 1.3 million viewers, according to independent rating agency BBM Nielsen Media Research.
Against The Grammy Awards (1.65 million, CBS/Global), the film peaked at 1.5 million viewers to become the No. 2 program of the night.

Mayerthorpe was watched in whole or in part by almost three million viewers across the country.

Starring Gemini Award-winning actor Henry Czerny (The Tudors, Fido) and Brian Markinson (Charlie Wilson's War, Eight Days to Live), Mayerthorpe is a chilling dramatization of the events leading up to March 3, 2005, when RCMP officers Anthony Gordon, 28, Leo Johnston, 32, Brock Myrol, 29, and Peter Schiemann, 29, were murdered by James Rozko.

The horrifying event was the RCMP’s greatest loss of life in a single day and left an entire country asking ‘why’?

As the three-year anniversary of the tragedy nears on March 3, the question still remains.

CTV said Mayerthorpe, the most-watched original Canadian drama of the year, is a testament to the strength and dedication of the families of the slain officers who lost their lives at the hands of habitual criminal Roszko, who ambushed them on his farm near Mayerthorpe with a high-powered semi-automatic assault rifle. He then killed himself.
