POWER: EUB approves FortisAlberta Inc, ATCO Electric distribution tariffs
(AlbertaIndex, December 17, Monday) --- The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) said it has approved FortisAlberta Inc’s application for increased electricity delivery rates and ATCO Electric Ltd’s interim distribution tariff effective January 1.
EUB’s Order U2007-361 means that FortisAlberta Inc charges on an average residential customer’s electricity bill will increase by $1.03 per month, or 1.1%, while an average farm customer’s electricity bill will increase by $3.63 per month, or 1.7%.

This excludes the impact of any changes to the energy commodity portion of the bill for regulated customers, which changes each month.

Fortis serves around 443,000 customers including residential, commercial, farm and industrial consumers. The Fortis service area covers most of central and southern Alberta excluding the larger cities of Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary, Medicine Hat and Lethbridge.

EUB’s Decision 2007-097 approved ATCO’s interim distribution tariff following the company’s refiling as directed in Decision 2007-086 from its 2008 Phase II application.

A Phase II application uses a cost of service study to fairly allocate the costs of the distribution service AE provides to the rate classes causing those costs. This decision also recognizes the elimination of the current AE Rider G and an increase in the Balancing Pool Credit Rider (AESO Rider F) which increases AE Rider B credits.

As a result, the EUB said typical customers in some rate classes will see reduced bills in 2008: Residential, down 1.6% or $0.83 per month on average; Farm Service, down 7.3% or $4.76 per month, and REA Farm, down 15% or $6.88 per month.

The EUB regulates investor-owned natural gas, electric, and water utilities to ensure that customers receive safe and reliable service at just and reasonable rates.
