GOVERNMENT: Gary Mar appointed Alberta Representative in Washington DC
        (AlbertaIndex, November 29, Thursday) --- Former Cabinet minister Gary Mar will take up his new post as Alberta’s Representative in Washington, D.C. from December 3.
        A statement from the provincial government, said Mar will resign as MLA for Calgary-Mackay to take up his new $230,520-a-year position at the Alberta Office in America’s capital.

As Alberta’s representative, he will work to persuade US political and business decision-makers that Alberta is a secure, reliable and growing supplier of energy, is environmentally responsible in developing its world-scale energy resources, remains business friendly, and supports strengthened Canada-US agricultural ties.

“As an MLA and member of Cabinet, Gary Mar has proven his ability to represent, defend and promote Alberta’s interests. Those skills will serve all Albertans well in Washington,” said Premier Ed Stelmach.

“We are fortunate to have someone with Gary Mar’s abilities heading up the Alberta Office in the capital city of our largest and most important trading partner,” said Guy Boutilier, Minister of International, Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Relations.

Mar has promised to build on the strong foundations and relationships already established by the Alberta Office.

He is in Washington, D.C. this week meeting with Alberta Office staff, Canadian Embassy officials and representatives of public policy organizations. Yesterday, he represented the Alberta government at a Canadian Embassy dinner honouring former Premier Ralph Klein for his contributions to Canada-US relations.
