ENERGY: Suncor’s October production could be affected following fire at oil sands mine
(AlbertaIndex, October 4, Thursday) --- Suncor Energy and the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) are investigating a fire that occurred at the company’s oil sands mine located 25 k north of Fort McMurray on Tuesday. One Suncor employee was treated for minor injuries.
The EUB said it received a report that fire started in a drum of the Millennium Coker Unit at 6:05 a.m. and was extinguished at 6:50 a.m. Due to damage caused by the fire, gas containing 15% hydrogen sulphide (H2S) was vented from the drum.

As a result of the venting, non-essential staff from the base mine were evacuated. It is unclear at this time how the facility’s production will be affected by the fire.

Suncor is targeting to produce between 255,000 and 265,000 b/d in 2007.
