(AlbertaIndex, July 9, Monday) --- The world famous Calgary Stampede is in full swing with large crowds and record prize money for competitions after last week’s “pink” opening attended by dignitaries led by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach. Calgary Stampeded Lotteries unveiled a prize lineup valued at more than $1.6 million that includes a dream home valued at over $800,000, Kinsmen Wheels’ vehicles worth more than $500,000, Lions Lucky Loot, with a $300,000 prize package and daily Calgary Marching Showband Association 50/50 draws. “In the past year, more than $1.2 million was distributed to southern Alberta charities through the service club partners.” The 2007 Rotary Dream Home is a 2,417 square foot, two-storey home designed and built by Homes by Avi. The rustic feel of this one-of-a-kind, four-bedroom home exudes mountain chic, from the great room with oversized fireplace and coffered ceiling to the spacious kitchen with custom island and built-in wine rack. Upstairs, the master bedroom features vaulted ceilings and a luxurious ensuite with jetted tub and custom designed shower. The home’s permanent location will be a corner lot in Panorama Hills. Lions Lucky Loot, operated by the Calgary North Hill Lions Club, offers a grand prize draw of $250,000 tax-free. This year’s Lions Lucky Loot lottery will also include a daily draw for $5,000 cash. Tickets purchased for Lions Lucky Loot also include an opportunity to scratch for a chance in the money booth where $50,000 will be up for grabs throughout Stampede. The money booths are located at the Roundup Centre and the Lions Lucky Loot main location at the south end of the Skyride, across from the Grandstand. Kinsmen Wheels offers seven separate prize packages valued at more than $500,000. This year’s highlight is the Fifth Wheel and Truck package featuring a 2007 GMC Sierra 3500 HD Crew Cab SLE truck and a 34.5 foot 2007 Citation Platinum 5th Wheel for a combined value of more than $189,000. Other Kinsmen Wheels prize packages include two cars: a loaded 2007 Pontiac G6 Convertible and a 2007 GMC Acadia FWD SLE, a 2007 Harley-Davidson Soft Tail Fatboy worth over $26,000, a 2007 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Crew Cab SLE truck, a 2007 Yamaha Rhino 660 4x4 SE and for the water a 2007 Seadoo GTI and trailer. Also offered is an 18 foot 2007 Chaparral 180 SSi boat, with a 4.3 GL Volvo Penta 190 hp and a Shorelander trailer and to pull it, a fully loaded 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab SLE fourwheel drive truck. This prize package is valued at over $85,000. The Calgary Marching Showband Association 50/50 draws were a huge success last year and will continue at this year’s Stampede. Draws will be made each afternoon and evening in the Grandstand during the Stampede Rodeo and GMC Rangeland Derby chuckwagon races. Last year, one lucky winner walked away with $11,000. Proceeds are shared with the Stampede Showband and other Stampede youth programs, contributing to the development of youth in Calgary and southern Alberta. Tickets for the Rotary Dream Home, Kinsmen Wheels and the Lions Lucky Loot are available at one for $10, 20 for $20 and 100 for $50. In addition, the Kinsmen offer a Rainbow ticket – 120 chances to win for only $100. Tickets for all Calgary Stampede Lotteries are available at booths in the Roundup Centre and throughout Stampede Park. The 2007 Calgary Stampede Parade kicked off on a “pink” note with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Stampede parade marshals, Aaron Jackson, Benjamin Jordan, Carlos Köppen and Rob Lewis, officially launching the event with a pink ribbon cutting ceremony last Friday. Parade spectators wore pink in support of 30-Hours of Tough. Pink bandanas will be for sale along the parade route. |
