ENERGY: Innisfail chosen as site of giant bioenergy refinery

        (AlbertaIndex, April 23) --- Riverstone Holdings, The Carlyle Group and Dominion Energy Services LLC have jointly announced that they have chosen the town of Innisfail, Alberta as the site for their investment in a huge biofuels refinery. The project comprises a 100-million gallon ethanol plant, a 100-million gallon canola crush facility and a 100-million gallon biodiesel facility.

 
HEALTH: Doctors agree to pay rise

ECONOMY: Record C$18.2 billion capital plan to focus on Alberta’s growing infrastructure needs
         (AlbertaIndex, April 20, Friday) --- The Alberta government has announced it will boost infrastructure investments in the province by 37% to C$18.2 billion over the next three years. The investments in municipalities, schools, health facilities, roads and post-secondary projects reflects the increased need for infrastructure as Alberta continues to grow rapidly.

       (AlbertaIndex, April 19, Thursday) --- The Alberta government said it is supporting the initial development and launch of a website providing consumers and industry with information on green or environmentally safe building products.
 
ENERGY: Ottawa to invest US$300,000 in biofuels project in southern Alberta
           (AlbertaIndex, April 18, Wednesday) --- The Canadian government said it is investing C$300,000 in a local organization in Lethbridge town, Alberta to help them participate in the emerging biofuels industry. The announcement was made by Rick Casson, Lethbridge’s Member of Parliament on behalf of the Chuck Strahl, Minister of Agriculture and Agri Food and Minister for the Canadian Wheat Board.
 
ECONOMY: Alberta was the “biggest story” of 2006, says StatsCan
        (AlbertaIndex, April 18, Wednesday) --- Alberta’s dominant role in Canada’s economic growth and the continued migration of people into the province was the biggest economic story of 2006, said Statsitics Canada in the online edition of Canadian Economic Observer.
        The year-end review said the most surprising development in Canada’ economy last year was not that a surge in oil prices or the bursting of the American housing bubble failed to dampen growth.

        (AlbertaIndex, April 17) --- Sacramento, California-based Clean Energy Inc said it has become the exclusive geothermal energy provider for a new 450-acre subdivision in northern Alberta.
 
AGRICULTURE: Bio-energy projects receive grants worth C$5 million
        (AlbertaIndex, April 16) --- The Alberta government will award grants totalling C$5 million to 14 renewable energy projects to support the development and expansion of bio-energy facilities and technology.
