ECONOMY: Scotiabank’s Commodity Price Index at record high in April

            (AlbertaIndex, May 31, Thursday) --- For the second month in a row, Scotiabank said its Commodity Price Index jumped to a new record high, up 3.9% in April over March. The All Items Index has now advanced 132.2% above the cyclical low in October 2001.

ENERGY: Abu Dhabi company pays US$2 billion for Northrock Resources

            (AlbertaIndex, May 30, Wednesday) --- Hosuton-based Pogo Producing Company said it has agreed to sell its entire stake in its wholly-owned subsidiary, Northrock Resources Ltd, for US$2 billion in cash to Abu Dhabi National Energy Company, also known as TAQA. 

 
TRANSPORTATION: Canadian Pacific seeks approvals to better service Alberta’s oil sands development

            (AlbertaIndex, May 29, Tuesday) --- Canadian Pacific said it has sought regulatory approval to construct rail lines to serve planned and existing bitumen upgraders northeast of Edmonton in Alberta’s developing Industrial Heartland. 

 
COMPANY: BP’s refining and marketing chief Manzoni quits to head Talisman Energy

            (AlbertaIndex, May 30, Wednesday) --- Talisman Energy said it has appointed John Manzoni, the head of BP’s refining business, as its new President and CEO to succeed Jim Buckee, who is retiring. The appointment takes effect September 1. 

 
ENERGY: Oil and gas contributed more than $40 billion to Canada’s 2006 GDP

            (AlbertaIndex, May 28, Monday) --- The oil and gas sector contributed more than $40 billion (in 1997 dollars) to Canada’s gross domestic product last year, according to a new Statistics Canada report.
