ENVIRONMENT: America’s clean fuel future doesn’t include Canadian tar sands, says US report

          (AlbertaIndex, June 14, Thursday) --- Environmental think tank Pembina has drawn Alberta’s attention to a new US report highlighting the negative environmental consequences of three ‘unconventional’ fuel sources. Pembina said the report by the Washington DC-based Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is receiving increasing interest from major energy companies and the US government.

 
HEALTH: Alberta approves $1.25 billion for South Health Campus in Calgary

         (AlbertaIndex, June 14, Thursday) --- The Alberta government said it has approved $1.25 billion for phase one of the South Health Campus. This project is being built as a partnership between government and the Calgary Health Region.

ENVIRONMENT: With Alberta stores, Wal-Mart is Canada’s largest commercial buyer of green energy

            (AlbertaIndex, June 12, Tuesday) --- Wal-Mart Canada has announced a three-year agreement to purchase 31,000 megawatt hours of clean, renewable power from Bullfrog Power to green the electricity of three of its Alberta stores. 

 
AGRICULTURE: Federal government invests $975,000 in Alberta’s emerging biofuels industry
            (AlbertaIndex, June 11, Monday) --- Canada’s federal government is investing $975,000 in four Alberta projects to help the province’s emerging biofuels industry, said John Williams, MP for Edmonton-St. Albert, on behalf of Chuck Strahl, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Minister for the Canadian Wheat Board.
 
ENERGY: Bullfrog Power and Pembina Institute to jointly promote renewable electricity

            (AlbertaIndex, June 8, Friday) --- Bullfrog Power, a leading Canadian provider of 100% green electricity, and the Pembina Institute, a national non-profit environmental organization dedicated to advancing sustainable energy solutions, have formed a new partnership to promote the benefits of renewable power to Canadians. As part of the partnership, the Pembina Institute will align its “Wind Power by Pembina” program with green power provider, Bullfrog Power.
 

 
ENERGY: NEB approves TransCanada’s five-year settlement with stakeholders for main gas pipeline

            (AlbertaIndex, June 8, Friday) --- TransCanada Corp said its wholly owned subsidiary, TransCanada PipeLines Limited, has received approval from the National Energy Board (NEB) for a five-year settlement with stakeholders regarding 20 seven tolls and costs for years 2008 to 2011 on its main natural gas transmission system. The terms of this settlement are effective January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2011. 

 
ENERGY: NEB receives Enbridge application for pipeline project

            (AlbertaIndex, June 7, Thursday) --- The National Energy Board said it has received an application from Enbridge Pipelines Inc. for the construction and operation of the ‘Alberta Clipper Pipeline’ project, a proposed new 1,607 km oil pipeline extending from Hardisty, Alberta to Superior, Wisconsin in the US.

 
ECONOMY: Alberta to grow at slower rate of 3.9% next year, says Canada West Foundation
            (AlbertaIndex, June 7, Thursday) --- The Canada West Foundation has predicted Alberta’s economy to grow by 4.2% in 2007 and 3.9% in 2008.

            (AlbertaIndex, June 6, Wednesday) --- Albertans living in and around Fort McMurray have been invited to share their views about the province’s royalty and tax regime in public meetings this week, ending today.
