DIVERSITY: Over $725,000 in project grants to fight discrimination and racism
        (AlbertaIndex, September 29, Monday) --- Over $725,000 in grants from the Human Rights, Citizenship and Multiculturalism Education Fund will help 12 organizations promote human rights, remove barriers to participation and challenge racism in Alberta.

EDUCATION: Province invests $425 million for 5,400 post-secondary spaces at Calgary institutions

        (AlbertaIndex, September 24, Wednesday) --- The government of Alberta is investing nearly $425 million to create 5,400 more places in Calgary for post-secondary students to access a range of certificate, diploma, degree and apprenticeship programs. The investment will enable three post-secondary institutions to expand their campuses.

 
ENERGY: Kitimat LNG plans export terminal to meet growing Asian demand
        (AlbertaIndex, September 23, Tuesday) --- Alberta’s long-suffering natural gas industry stands to reap huge gains if Kitimat LNG Inc succeeds in its plans to develop a terminal in British Columbia to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the energy-hungry markets of Asia. The terminal will be sited near Kitimat port in on the Calgary-based company’s existing site at Bish Cove.

CITIES: Economies of Calgary, Edmonton to grow by more than 3% this year
        (AlbertaIndex, September 18, Thursday) --- The economies of Calgary and Edmonton are expected to grow at a slower rate of 3.2 percent and 3.1 percent respectively this year, said the Conference Board.

       (AlbertaIndex, September 16 2008, Tuesday) --- Cities in Western Canada must find new municipal funding mechanisms that can help diversify the local government tax base and reduce their dependence on property taxes.
 
COMMUNITY: Alberta marks anniversary of municipal funding scheme
        (AlbertaIndex, September 15, Monday) ---Alberta last Friday marked the first anniversary of a new formula for the 10-year Municipal Sustainability Initiative funding worth an estimated $11.3 billion. Approximately 900 capital and 600 operating applications have been received since 2007-08.
